Last Friday we offered to be part of the applause machine during the Crunchies awards 2007 held in 2008. The most innovative internet startups were elected. They got elected by the internet audience. So I personally doubt somewhat the honesty of these elections.
During the ceremony Michael Arrington told us that the only adult content startup was pretty much disqualified. They had gained over 20% of the total votes of the entire show. It had something to do with unique IP’s. Now if you let the audience vote, then let them vote. It seems that they are really happy with the services of this particular startup.
This weekend I spoke with two guys who work at an internet startup in porn streaming. Interesting enough, they said that the best times were over. According to them, people get bored soon, and then they will look for new services or names on the internet. That should teach us a lot about the loyalty on the internet. How to keep them entertained? They are looking for the same, but do not want it to be displayed as the same.
Anyway, the best part of the Crunchies was this song by an all-male group. In short that was the feeling I got from the entire startup awards, it was and is a man’s world. It is about time we got more powerful women in this industry. Only if it were to make the men more original and competitve and throw away their khaki pants and blue shirts.
